Springtime in Victoria, BC, is truly something special. As the cherry blossoms start to blanket our streets in pink and the West Coast air begins to lose its winter chill, we all start looking for ways to shake off the hibernation and get our hands into something creative. With Spring Break just around the corner, I know many of you are already scouting for activities that aren’t just "busy work," but are meaningful, fun, and perhaps a little bit educational too.
At Wychbury Ave Soap & Gifts, we believe that the best way to spend a school break is by getting a little messy: in a clean way, of course! Our little soap studio in the heart of our community is getting ready to welcome a new batch of young makers. If you’re looking for a unique, hands-on experience for your children, our soap making for kids workshops are the perfect solution for your Spring Break itinerary.
Why Choose a Creative Workshop This Spring Break?
When school lets out, it’s so easy for kids to gravitate toward screens. While a movie marathon has its place, there is something profoundly satisfying about creating a physical object from scratch. In our Victoria BC studio, we provide a safe, encouraging environment where kids can swap the tablet for a mixing bowl.
Soap making is a wonderful blend of art and science. It teaches children about measurements, colour theory, and scent blending, all while they think they’re just playing. It’s about more than just a bar of soap; it’s about the pride that lights up a child’s face when they say, "I made this myself!" This sense of accomplishment is exactly what we strive for with every guest who walks through our doors.

Nurturing Creativity with Gentle Ingredients
One of our core beliefs at Wychbury Ave is that the ingredients we use should be both environmentally and socially responsible. Most commercial "soaps" found on big-box store shelves aren't actually soap at all: they are harsh synthetic detergents filled with foaming agents that can strip the skin of its natural oils. We want to teach the next generation that there is a gentler, more nourishing way.
In our workshops, we use high-quality ingredients that are kind to young, sensitive skin. When your child participates in our session, they aren't just making a toy; they are making a functional piece of bath art. We use "melt and pour" bases that are safe for little hands: no harsh chemicals or lye handling required for the younger set. They get to experiment with:
- Vibrant, Skin-Safe Colours: Learning how to mix primary colours to create their own custom hues.
- Essential Oils and Fragrances: Discovering how different scents can make us feel calm or energized.
- Botanicals and Textures: Adding dried flowers or biodegradable glitters to make their creations pop.
What to Expect at a Wychbury Ave Workshop
We’ve designed our sessions to be stress-free for parents and high-energy for kids. Our 90-minute hands-on sessions are perfect for ages 6 and up. We keep our groups small to ensure every child gets the attention and guidance they need to succeed.
For the Junior Makers (Ages 6+)
Our standard soap-making for kids workshops focus on the joy of scent and colour. We guide them through the process of choosing a mould, picking their favourite colours, and selecting a scent that makes them smile. Each child typically goes home with 15-20 soaps, ready to use that very night! You can find more details on our workshops page.
For the Pre-Teens (SOAP LAB PRO, Ages 11-15)
If you have an older child who wants to dive a bit deeper, our SOAP LAB PRO is a 2-hour studio-style class. Here, the focus shifts toward the design aspect. They get more freedom to plan their ideas, experiment with layers, embeds, and more complex design techniques. It’s a fantastic way for teens to express their individuality and perhaps even spark a lifelong hobby or a future entrepreneurial spirit!

A Cozy, Community-Focused Atmosphere
Wychbury Ave isn’t just a brand; it’s a part of the Victoria neighbourhood. When you sign your kids up for a session here, you aren’t just booking an activity; you’re supporting a local, woman-owned business that cares deeply about our community. We take great pride in our studio being a "cozy" space. It’s warm, it smells amazing (obviously!), and it’s filled with the creative energy of handmade goods.
We love seeing local families return year after year. It’s part of our commitment to being more than just a shop. Whether you are looking for gift sets, a birthday party or just want to treat yourself to some shower bombs, we want you to feel like you’re part of the Wychbury family.
